Colorado Cave Survey May 11, 1998 Old Business ------------ 1. LaSunder - No response yet from Paul's letter to Mendoza. Suggested that a second letter be sent, and that we carefully document all of our attempts. Wait on going over his head. - J. Sherer spoke with Medoza in Dec. 97 and had the impression that he'd prefer that we submit a management plan. - Suggestion that we submit a Groaning-style management plan (Paul will write it). Limited access, no neophytes, set % of work/rec trips. - Need to pre-establish a photo-monitoring program to document impact. (Cronks?) - Limit # trips/year (24 total?) (#/wkend max as well) - Max 6 people/trip w/out prior approval. - Distribute one key per grotto. - Note that Goodbar is the BLM cave specialist (if we need him). 2. WRNF - Cave name list was submitted. No further info. 3. Cave Creek - Proposal has been submitted - no more info from Fairplay USFS - Fred has some ideas for a gate: 30" culvert with ladder, viz Fulford design. Need to have the top out of the wind separation streamline to avoid snow ingestion, etc. 4. Groaning - USFS will remove the cement plug and install a bat tube. - Fish and Wildlife is doing a bat count. - Bruce is continuing as waiver contact. New Business ------------ 1. Meetings - Want to rotate location to involve more of the state's cavers. - Golden/Longmont/Monument/Sterling 2. Timberline Grotto wants to place contact cards w/ Grotto name and phone number, conservation message (at Fulford?). Also wants to place a sign outside the Groaning gate. Next Meeting: Eagle USFS Office (pending approval of USFS) 14 August 1998
